Recently, Famitsu sat down with a few team members from Insomniac to talk a bit about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The interview dug a bit into how the game uses the PS5's new adaptive controllers and what the new SSD means for the game. However, maybe the most interesting topic was that the game will support 60 FPS via a performance mode.

The Insomniac devs didn't specify what resolution the 60 FPS mode will run at. Instead, they just said it would be "lower" than 4K. Presumably, that just means 1080p, but they didn't confirm that specifically. This mostly lines up with what Sony is doing in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. That game will also have a performance mode, though does support 4K resolution.

It's nice to see Sony's first-party studios supporting different ways to play. Obviously, many people choose to play on console over PC because of the ease of use from a technical standpoint. However, having options to tweak performance to suit your needs is a perfectly reasonable direction for consoles to begin taking. It's not quite as handy as being able to completely fine-tune your experience, but it's something.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart also got a new, seven-minute trailer at Gamescom Opening Live. There, the team committed to releasing in the PS5 launch window, though we don't know when that window is or how long it will be open. That said, things are looking promising out of Insomniac. If you can't wait to get your hands on more Ratchet, we've put together a nifty guide for how to play as many of the classic titles as possible.
