Developers at Insomniac Games have stated that they didn't need to crunch to produce a well-recieved title.

In just a few short days, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart launches to excited and eager fans who can't wait to get their hands on the much-anticipated game from Insomniac Games.

As we all know, crunch at gaming studios has been at the forefront of many popular titles with many developers coming forward to express the tremendous stress and pressure they've undergone to get their game finished. CD Projekt Red, for instance, came under scrutiny in 2020 when the development team highlighted that a lot of crunch happened when making Cyberpunk 2077, even though the studio promised that it would avoid this process.

On the flip side of this coin, two developers at Insomniac Games have stepped forward to express how they never had to crunch once during the development of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Grant Parker, a Games Designer at Insomniac, took to Twitter in the hopes of sharing his positive experience while working on the title. Parker stated that he didn't crunch once and was able to sustain 40 hour weeks throughout Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's entire development.

Lindsay Thompson, an animator at Insomniac Games, quoted Parker's tweet with her very own statement and personal option of what she went through workwise with the progression of the title.

Thompson added that even though there were a few late nights sometimes, her experience was "completely crunch free". She also suggested that due to the positivity of not undergoing crunch that the team were at their best, thus allowing the creativity to flow.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's Metacritic score of 89 only goes to prove that you don't need to put developers under ridiculous amounts of stress, long hours and pressure to make a hit game. Here's hoping that many more studios take heed of this concept as we move forward into more next-gen titles.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will release on June 11th, 2021, exclusively for PlayStation 5. In the meantime, you can check out DualShockers review of the title right here.
