Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was released for the PlayStation 5 on June 11th, 2021.

The game is a perfect culmination of old and new, with there being something for original fans, and something for those picking up a Ratchet & Clank game for the very first time.

Although the title will likely go down as a PlayStation classic, it's not perfect. So to rectify some of the lingering issues with the game, Insomniac Games have been releasing frequent updates to keep everything running smoothly.

June 17th Update

On June 17th, a new update was deployed for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Numerous issues were fixed in the latest update, from Rivet spawning without a hammer, to some players being stuck during the Phantom chase.

There was also a change that will be important to those with 120Hz capable monitors. Before the most recent update, enabling 120Hz output was causing players to experience input latency of 8ms. Insomniac Games have now disabled automatic 120Hz display output whilst in Performance mode until a more permanent fix can be deployed.

Check out the patch notes below to find out more.

Patch Notes

Below you will find the official patch notes for the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart update released on June 17. These notes were taken directly from the Insomniac Games website.

General Fixes & Polish

  • Improved general game stability
  • Prevented players from getting stuck if a weapon video does not play
  • Addressed an issue where the player could become stuck during the Phantom chase
  • Addressed an issue where Rivet could spawn without the hammer
  • Addressed an issue where Rivet could become stuck after collecting Zurpstones in Challenge Mode
  • Various additional fixes
  • Disabled automatic 120 Hz display output in Performance modes
    • Prior to this update, if "Enable 120 Hz Output" was set in the system settings, using the Performance RT or Performance mode would auto-detect a 120 Hz-capable display and use a 120 Hz output mode. While this did not change the game's frame rate, it did reduce input latency by ~8 ms. However, entering this mode introduced visual compatibility issues with some displays that we didn't feel comfortable imposing automatically on players. We're exploring ways to re-introduce this input latency reduction feature  in a future update.
