Today, publisher 1C Company announced its collaboration with developer Destructive Creations to bring a new real-time strategy game to PC and Xbox One.

In Ancestors, players command an army from one of four nations (Viking, Anglo-Saxon, German, or Slav) through medieval Europe over several historically accurate campaigns. However, in order to find victory, you’ll have to do more than conquer your enemy through sheer brute force. Only by making appropriate tactical decisions, regarding how you manage your temporary settlements and the ever-important terrain, will your nation stand a chance of survival.

The following is a breakdown of what you can expect to find in Ancestors.

  • Advanced tactical options combining the use of terrain, experience and morale
  • Cinematic battle camera view puts you right in the center of the action
  • Outstanding visual fidelity powered by Unreal Engine 4
  • Intense multiplayer battles
  • Streamlined resource management and village construction

Accompanying the announcement, 1C also released a cinematic trailer for the game, which can be found below, showcasing how intense and unforgiving the battles of the Middle Ages really were. About the video, the publisher says the goal was to capture the brutality of these conflicts.

“Many conflicts were resolved through violent, bloody war. Men fought bravely, fiercely and viciously at close range. But only a few would emerge victorious, while the motionless corpses of their fallen friends and foes were left buried in the blood-soaked mud beneath their feet.”

1C says that more will be announced about Ancestors at this year’s Gamescom.

For more information about Ancestors, you can visit the game’s Steam page or the official website. There is currently no release date for the game, but the website says it is “soon.”
