Rebellion is the studio behind games like Sniper Elite, Evil Genius, and Zombie Army. The studio has had success branching out into comics and books. Now, Rebellion has decided to try their hand at producing board games. The new division, Rebellion Unplugged, is making an analog version of Sniper Elite as their first game.

We don't know anything else about the board currently other than that it will launch on Kickstarter early next year. It's been a while since I've played a Sniper Elite game, but my best guess would be some type of hand management game that sees you trying to be the first player to snipe a target. There's a lot of potential there for something that adapts a bit of the Hitman style to the world of board gaming. Giving players options to creatively set up shots could be a fun way to go.

Another style that's easy to imagine them adapting would be a one-versus-one, hidden movement game. A two-player battle of wits with one person controlling the sniper and the other controlling the enemy forces might work. Of course, I'm just spitballing here. Hopefully, we learn more soon.

Personally, I'm super excited to see what they do with an Evil Genius adaptation. It's style of strategy and simulation seem much more applicable to board gaming. Not that I expect the Sniper Elite game to be bad, just that Evil Genius seems like a property with more potential.

Regardless, it's cool to see a studio like Rebellion branch out into board games. They've already shown the ability to move outside of board games, so this announcement makes a lot of sense. Obviously, we still need to actually see the game, but I'm cautiously excited for now.

Fortunately, Rebellion will be bringing an early version of the game to PAX Unplugged. This first glance should give us a great idea of what the team is cooking up.
