Red Dead Online Details Upcoming Specialist Roles

Rockstar releases more information about the Bounty Hunter, Trader, and Collector roles.

Rockstar previously announced that specialist roles would be coming to Red Dead Online, and today we get details. In short, it looks like there will be a lot of incentive for you to experiment with each role: the Bounty Hunter, the Trader, and the Collector.

Each specialist role comes with a number of exclusive cosmetics, upgrades, and abilities, and it is important to note that you’ll be able to make progress each role simultaneously. In other words, playing as a trader will not lock you out of making progress as a bounty hunter. That said, your progression in each role will be distinct.

In their announcement post, Rockstar provided a brief overview of what each specialist will be able to do.

Become a Bounty Hunter for a life of constant action on both sides of the law. A licensed Bounty Hunter can track down targets and capture – or kill, depending on how honorable you are in your pursuits. Occasionally, a nearby player with a high enough bounty can also be a designated target. Progression will unlock special items like a reinforced lasso for extra-tough targets, as well as intricate gun-spinning tricks and advanced tracking skills like the ability to use Eagle-Eye while sprinting, galloping on horseback and many other special skills, items and upgrades.

The Bounty Hunter looks to be combat-oriented. Being able to use Eagle-Eye while sprinting or on horseback, for instance, will offer significant help when charging into an enemy encampment, and the reinforced lasso promises to keep enemy players in line.

The life of a Trader is perfect for burgeoning capitalists as you establish and develop a business from your Camp. Thanks to your trusty companion Cripps’ knowledge of furs, skins and butchery, you’ll be able to take on new opportunities to collect materials and produce valuable goods to sell. Increasing your skill as a Trader unlocks the ability to upgrade your Camp with a Weapons Locker, Stew Pot and even allow any canine companion to warn of impending attacks on the camp. As your business expands, you can gain new skills, improve your satchel or add new assets to your business-like hunting wagons to bring in bigger hauls and much more.

The big news here, of course, is that you’ll be able to have a dog. You’ll also have the ability to collect more materials and goods that will help you expand your business, and there will be a slew of upgrades you can apply to your camp as well. This makes sense: you’re a Trader, after all.

Collector loves to explore the world for rare and valuable items. Look for a mystic travelling saleswoman in the wild to  get started down the Collector’s path, searching for lost jewelry, rare arrowheads and other treasures to sell as individual pieces or highly valuable sets. As you progress, you will gain access to tools that help your search including Refined Binoculars, a Horse Lantern and even a Metal Detector, as well as gaining additional skills to help you seek and discover the world’s greatest rarities.

The Collector sounds like he’ll spend a lot of time hunting down treasures. The item set system could be really interesting–it sounds like it will add some new dimensions and import to multiplayer interactions. There seems to be some nice, practical upgrades here too in the Horse Lantern and Refined Binoculars.

Rockstar also detailed a number of quality-of-life improvements that will be coming to the game, like more lootable items being found across the map. Perhaps the most notable news here, though, is that players will soon be able to reset their character’s appearance. If you don’t like your character’s hair, for example, you’ll soon have a workaround.

Rockstar tweeted that all of these updates will be “Coming soon.” We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.
