Red Dead Online is Getting a Standalone Release in December

Red Dead Online will branch out to a standalone multiplayer release across consoles and PC starting on December 1, 2020.

With its debut in December 2018, Red Dead Online offered players the chance to go beyond the story mode of Red Dead Redemption 2 with an expansive multiplayer experience. Now two years after its launch, Rockstar is giving more players the dive to ride into the game’s multiplayer component with a standalone release coming next week.

Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Online will be available as a standalone release on consoles and PC starting on December 1, 2020. Specifically, the publisher detailed that the multiplayer mode will be priced at $4.99 from now through February 15, 2021, and will then be available for $19.99 after that date. The standalone version will require up to 123GB of storage space, and players that purchase the multiplayer portion will also have the option to purchase the game’s story mode as a separate purchase.

As Rockstar detailed in a blog post, the standalone version of RDO will offer players everything that the multiplayer mode has encompassed to date, including new content updates and in-game events. This includes an upcoming update for the game next week that will introduce an expansion for the Bounty Hunter role with new missions and gear to track down.

The standalone release for RDO isn’t a huge surprise considering that Rockstar is also planning to introduce a standalone version of Grand Theft Auto Online, the massively successful multiplayer portion of Grand Theft Auto V. Earlier this year, Rockstar announced that a standalone release for GTA Online is set to release in 2021, and will be available for free to PS5 owners with a PlayStation Plus subscription at its launch.

Red Dead Online is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
