By now, everyone on the internet is well-acquainted with the impressive level of detail that developer Rockstar Games threw into the Western title. And while we have previously showcased things relating to the birds and horses of Red Dead Redemption 2, this week the community is honing in on the cats and dogs you can find throughout the game.

The first video was posted by Redditor u/postal1234, showing a cat casually walk up to a wooden post in Strawberry and scratch a wooden post:

After filing down his claws, the cat casually walks up nearby steps and started purring at the game's protagonist, Arthur. While this is obviously a small detail, it is one that can go entirely unnoticed -- even by those who have poured over 100 hours into the game.

On an entirely unrelated note, another Reddit user (u/Hupflupper) captured a screenshot of a somber dog waiting by the grave of his owner.

Now unlike the cat sequence (above), this is a pre-planned reference. While some may get flashbacks of the (arguably) saddest moment of Futurama, this is instead an homage to Greyfriars Bobby--popular folklore in Rockstar North's hometown Edinburgh, Scotland.

For anyone who hasn't heard of the tale, the story goes that Bobby -- a Skye Terrier -- was owned by a John Gray of the Edinburgh City Police. When Gray passed away, Bobby sat at the grave of his owner for just shy of fifteen years until he died himself.

In other words, this is another small detail you may have overlooked (or not come across) that both fleshes out the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and is a fun (but somber) callback to Rockstar North's roots.

The level of detail on animals in the game has been praised across the board as a technical achievement. Despite a few nitpicks, a birdwatcher from the National Audubon Society claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is "absolutely the best and boldest representation of American birdlife in any video game." On the other hand, Arthur's interaction with his horse has been dissected many times over -- notably the fact that the horses' testicles shrink when it gets cold and that Arthur cries following the death of a fully-bonded horse.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently available on PS4 and Xbox One; you can read up on our review before picking up the game on Amazon if you haven't already.
