Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Causing Trouble for Real-Life O’Driscolls

Thanks to Red Dead Redemption 2 the O'Driscoll name has been tarnished

It’s no lie that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been the talk of the internet since it launched last month. Since it launched it dominated the UK sales and made a record-breaking $725 Million in its opening weekend. This popularity has also led us to see a range of interesting content showing up online, one of those was a +857% increase in searches for Red Dead Redemption on YouPorn on October 26.

Other content included social media being awash with glitches and unexpected moments, someone finding the edge of the map, and now real people are getting hate because of the O’Driscoll gang in the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 features a rival gang who are run by Colm O’Driscoll, and it seems that a fair amount of people in the real world share the O’Driscoll name which has led to some moments of unexpected anger towards those people or companies. Of course, this is all in jest —I hope— but here are some examples.

Not in my town from r/reddeadredemption

Here’s one, a poor company named Driscoll’s who operate in Europe and Australia/New Zeland, North America, and China. They’re known for their fresh berries and keeping their lovely customers happy and healthy. However, the O’Driscoll name has been tarnished and as shown above, they’ll no doubt be confused why they’re getting negative reception for their fresh berries.

Used to be my favorite liquor store, now I’ll never give these bastards another red cent. from r/reddeadredemption

Another company, one of which is located in Taylorsville, KY has also had some O’Driscoll hate go their way. O’Driscoll Spirits was just minding its own business, being a business, and then Red Dead Redemption 2 came along and tarred it with the O’Driscoll gang fame.

Of course, one person on Twitter shared the exact name of the gang’s leader Colm O’Driscoll and shared images of some of the messages they received.

This situation is certainly looking like it’s getting a bit brutish such as the above tweet’s responses with death threats towards a real person who just so happens to share the name of a fictional character. A funny situation, although let’s just hope these people aren’t really angry at the people/companies.

Have you come across any other unfortunate Red Dead Redemption 2 O’Driscoll name shares? Let us know, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for Xbox One and PS4. You can pick it up on Amazon if you wish.

Curse you O’Driscoll’s
