I know that I am probably in the minority when I say this but the original Red Faction was definitely not my cup of tea. However, good thing that I don’t make up the general consensus of gamers out there because if I did, you probably wouldn’t be getting the news I’m about to tell you all about. THQ and Volition Inc have announced a sequel by the name of Red Faction: Armageddon, and like it’s predecessor it will be headed to the 360, PS3 and the PC. That’s not all, they have also announced a target release date. You can expect this game to be on store shelves in March 2011. Something tells me that if they [THQ] are confident to announce a release date already, we’ll be seeing more about this title at E3 next week, so make sure to stay tuned for that. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Half a century after the Red Faction resistance freed Mars, the red planet again becomes a battleground. Colonists struggle for survival in the underground mines after the surface is rendered uninhabitable. When Darius Mason, grandson of revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samanya, unknowingly releases a long-dormant evil, Armageddon is unleashed on Mars. As settlements are torn asunder, only Darius and the Red Faction can save mankind.
