Reggie Fils-Aime Delivers a Heartfelt Speech After Winning Legend Award at New York Video Game Awards
In recognition of his lifetime achievements, Reggie Fils-Aime shared his thanks in an acceptance speech at The New York Video Game Awards.
While 2019 has come and gone, a few awards groups and organizations throughout the beginning of the year have been taking time to recognize the biggest and best games of the year. The New York Video Game Awards has been among them after their awards ceremony this week, with the awards group also recognizing one of the games industry’s most iconic members, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
During last night’s New York Video Game Awards 2020, Reggie Fils-Aime was in attendance at the awards ceremony as the recipient of this year’s Legend Award. The award was honored to Fils-Aime for lifetime achievement, along with recognizing Fils-Aime’s work not only at Nintendo, but also for his substantial contributions to other areas of the games industry, especially when it comes to outreach and professional development.
Since Fils-Aime retired from Nintendo of America last year, he has been active in sharing his professional experiences with numerous schools and institutions, which he touched on in his acceptance speech for the Legend Award at the NYVGA last night. Specifically, Fils-Aime stated how he is looking “to give back” in the next phase of his life through offering his advice and experience to others looking to earn opportunities in the games industry and the arts. In his speech, he cited his recent experiences meeting with kids at the DreamYard Project in the Bronx as an inspiring moment in his retirement, especially having grown up there himself.
