Relive All Your Jaws Nightmares With Depth

As a surfer, I can’t help but have a subconscious fear that I’ll be in the line-up and a huge mouth full of nasty jagged teeth will just charge up from underneath me and drag me down with it. Depth doesn’t exactly dissuade me of those fears, and it doesn’t help that I want to play it badly as well. It looks to be a strictly multiplayer experience that basically boils down to sharks vs. scuba divers.

How does that work? Apparently, the sharks have to disable all the scuba divers before they find and take all of the precious precious ocean treasure. Sounds like sharks have the upper hand, but in the depths of the ocean, they won’t have the clear vision allowed to catch all the divers. Additionally, divers have tools like the tagging gun and spear gun to hinder sharks, if only for a brief second.

The gameplay and balance of what seems like a David vs Goliath match-up is infinitely interesting, which is why I’m keeping a close eye on this one. They just released new footage at GDC, which you can see after the jump.

The stuff of nightmares, really. No word yet on when it’s coming out, but it shouldn’t be too far off; there’s talks of an open beta happening fairly soon.

Allen is an utter whore of a gamer; he's completely open-minded to all games, be they AAA blockbusters or $5 casual children's games. His focus is on indie games specifically, valuing gameplay and ingenuity over sparkly visuals and ridiculous gimmicks. When he's not geeking out over the newest art game, he's out toning his sexy, sculpted shoulders while surfing epic 1.5ft waves, or having a good time with local, high-gravity microbrews.
