While some more notable multiplayer games like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint have underperformed, a couple of smaller multiplayer titles such have managed to find success and achieve sleeper hit status. Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive's World War Z did so earlier this year, selling 2 million copies within a month of launch. Gunfire Games and Perfect World Entertainment's Remnant: From the Ashes is the next title worthy of that status, as it has sold 1 million copies since its release in late October.

Both the developer and publisher are surprised by the passionate response to the game. Gunfire Game's President David Adams called the response "overwhelming and humbling" and Perfect World Entertainment's COO Yoon Im stated "Gunfire Games has made a truly special game, and it’s fantastic to see how much it has resonated with players. The team has awesome plans in the works that will continue to keep the game fresh and challenging. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey with them and all of the fans."

On that note, a more detailed roadmap was unveiled by the pair and it includes some heavily requested features. "We’re excited to expand Remnant’s universe and know players will love the new game content we have in the pipe for 2020. They’ve been asking almost daily for harder and harder challenges, and we are thrilled to unveil Hardcore Mode," Adams teased. That mode arrives tomorrow, on Halloween, and adds a hardcore mode that tasks players with beating Remnant: From the Ashes with only one life. That being said, this mode must be played online and there is no random matchmaking, only manual inviting.

Tomorrow's update also brings in some smaller quality of life features like an emote wheel, Apex Legends-style environmental pinging and the ability to turn off tutorials. The next update of this size for Remnant: From the Ashes isn't planned until Spring 2020, which is when the Corsus + Survival Update will arrive. A major update is also being teased for late 2020, though Gunfire Games and Perfect World Entertainment aren't saying anything more about it at this time.
