If you had already purchased any of the mainline Resident Evil entries since Resident Evil 7, you can now upgrade them for free to the next-gen version on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Today's Capcom Showcase had a special focus on the Resident Evil franchise. First, the developers revealed the first story trailer for Shadows of Rose, the new upcoming campaign expansion to Resident Evil Village.

Then, we received some new Resident Evil 4 information briefly with a glimpse at the gameplay of this new remake from Capcom. Soon after that, the showcase was finished with a huge surprise for next-gen fans of the franchise, as Capcom revealed that a free upgrade to next-gen is now available for Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7.

If you are going to play these incredible Capcom experiences on next-gen consoles, you are lucky to have 3D Audio, Ray-Tracing, and higher frame rates enabled already. When it comes to horror games, all these new features could make a significant impact in delivering a haunting atmosphere with ultimate realism.

PC players have already received enhancement updates for Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 3 Remake, but a new update will soon launch for Resident Evil 2 Remake, which will add up to the visual quality of the game while raising the minimum system requirements.

So, if you think your PC is not powerful enough to handle a visual improvement in Resident Evil 2 Remake, make sure to keep your game away from an automatic update.

Despite getting a significant enhancement update on PlayStation 5, Resident Evil 7 will not get a PSVR 2 treatment, unlike its successor. So, VR fans will likely have to play RE7 on the original PSVR unless Sony enables backward compatibility for PSVR 2.
