Resident Evil has been all the rage right now. Last year's excellent remake of Resident Evil 2 was an excellent reimagining and in my opinion, a near-perfect survival horror game. Now I am making my way through Resident Evil 3 and having a blast. I would love to keep playing a new entry into the series each year and a new rumor suggests that might be possible.

Over on Twitter,

Okay, so the little game is done. This will be breaking this month with more details later not by myself, but I've needed to clear some stuff up. "Resident Evil 2021" is Resident Evil 8, but it wasn't always RE8. During most of its development it existed as Revelations 3.

">AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, a somewhat reputable leaker, states that "Resident Evil 2021" is actually Resident Evil 8 and will be revealed later this month. They also state that the game wasn't always going to be the 8th entry and during most of the game's development it was going to be Resident Evil Revelations 3.

They also suggest that the game will retain the first-person viewpoint from RE7 and take a few departures away from the typical Resident Evil tropes that can be found in many of the games. They state, "it is first-person, and many purists are going to hate it because it's taking some serious departures in the story/enemies and the like. Hallucinations, Occultism, insanity and not being able to trust others are huge thematics of the game."

Resident Evil 7 was an incredible experience and I applauded Capcom for getting the horror back into the series. Don't even get me started on playing it in VR, too. I have some good memories of getting all of my roommates to pop the headset on only to then watch them freak out. So, if this rumor turns out to be true, I would be pretty ecstatic.

Again, this is all just rumor for now, though. AestheticGamer has a spotty history with leaks so take all of this with a grain of salt. They did state correctly that the Resident Evil 3 Remake was coming sooner than expected. However, they also said that there were multiple Silent Hill games in development, which, well, you know how that went.

As of right now, I would suggest hopping into the remake of the third game to soothe your RE8 worries. The game has been nothing but a joy to play, but don't just take my word for it. The game is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
