A group of dedicated Resident Evil fans has been developing a remake of Code Veronica, and its first full-length gameplay trailer is finally here.

The Resident Evil franchise is a cornerstone of horror game culture, with a long line of iconic games spanning nearly 30 years. It's no wonder, then, why it has one of the biggest and most dedicated fanbases out there, even for some of the franchise's less-known games.

With a launch in 2000, Resident Evil: Code Veronica was one of the first Resident Evil games to launch. Though it released to critical acclaim and subsequently became one of the best Dreamcast games of all time, Code Veronica hasn't seen a true high-def remaster since 2011. That is, until now.

A team of fan developers has taken to giving Resident Evil: Code Veronica the remake it deserves. Now, their new trailer unveils sleek updated graphics and some killer gameplay.

A NEW UPDATE ON THE RESIDENT EVIL: CODE VERONICA FAN REMAKE

The team behind Resident Evil: Code Veronica initially announced the remake back in December 2021. Though small, the team is made up of incredible collaborators like leaders Matt Croft, Briins Croft and DarkNemesisUmbrella. Overall, the project aims to be faithful to the original story while adding a modern flair to the game's graphics and animations.

The remake will be released in 3 chapters, each with an approximate duration of about 4 hours. These 12 hours of gameplay were all recreated in Unity, aiming to increase stability of play and update enemy behavior. Players can now try to dodge zombies, who are also able to bite the player in combat.

Additionally, the team developed a set of new animations for both Claire Redfield and the enemies. Movements will supposedly feel more natural, less clunky than an old console port. Characters react to the environment around them - Claire responds to the heat of a fire, or to a sudden downpour. The dedication to creating a more realistic experience has created a truly gorgeous-looking remake.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica is set to launch sometime in 2022. And, luckily for any fans excited to hop into Code Veronica, the game will be free to play at launch. The team will also release a "Lite" version of the remake, built for older PCs. Ultimately, their goal is to make the remake as accessible as possible to any fan who wishes to play.
