Here's everything you need to know from last night's event.

April 16, 2021

2021 is set to be a phenomenal year for lovers of the Resident Evil franchise.

Alongside a myriad of new games, audiences will be treated to brand new content on both the big and small screens, with a movie reboot and a pair of tv shows, one live-action and the other animated.

Of course, the beloved horror franchise does celebrate its 25th anniversary this year and all of this content shows Capcom has no intention of letting it pass by quietly.

Last night, the company held a bumper Resident Evil showcase to whet the appetite of the masses – here is a recap of everything you need to know from that event.

Resident Evil Village Showcase Recap: New Trailer, Mercenaries Mode + Demo Details

The showcase kicked off in emphatic style, showing off a brand new, action-packed trailer for next month’s Resident Evil Village.

Everybody’s favourite tall vampire made an appearance, and I imagine she’ll be key to the marketing push leading up to the game’s release, alongside the likes of Ethan, Chris and a selection of different ghoulies.

During the showcase, Capcom also confirmed the re-emergence of Mercenaries Mode.

The mode an arcadey take on Resident Evil’s gameplay, something more akin to the Call of Duty Zombies mode we’ve become accustomed to.

Alongside the trailer and Mercenaries Mode announcement, details were revealed about the game’s second demo, which will offer players the chance to visit a couple of areas in the game – the Village and Castle.

The demo will be available early for PlayStation players. You can see the full details below:

Resident Evil 4 VR

It comes as no surprise to anybody that Resident Evil 4 will be reappearing very soon. The title is easily one of the most beloved in the series and, numerically, was next in line for the remake treatment after the recent success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 releases.

What nobody anticipated, however, was that the title would be releasing in VR.

The game will be heading to the Oculus Quest 2, with more details being revealed at the Oculus Games Showcase later this month. This will surely be one of the marquee titles in the fledgeling life of VR.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Details

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the animated half of the two Resi TV shows that are due out this year.

The show is set two years after the events of Resident Evil 4 and follows series favourites Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy.

Dead by Daylight Crossover

Last but not least, Capcom confirmed a brand new crossover with the incredibly popular Dead by Daylight.

This won’t be the first time survival hit has received crossovers with other huge horror franchises, with the likes of Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Silent Hill featuring in the game.

More details on the crossover are to be announced in the not so distant future.
