The much-hyped Resident Evil TV series will not be getting another season, as Netflix confirmed earlier today that the show has been cancelled.

As one of the most popular gaming franchises, there were a lot of expectations attached to the Resident Evil Netflix series. However, it didn't turn out to be that big of a success, and uncertainty started to loom about the future of the show. While the show did have some subtle hints towards the existence of a second season, it seems like the subpar response has forced the creators to change their plans.

While there is no official announcement from Netflix themselves regarding the cancellation, the news was confirmed by Deadline in a report earlier today. While the exact cause for the cancellation has not been mentioned, it is likely the aforesaid mentioned reasons which led to this decision. Ideally, one would see that the creators gauge the interest of the audience over a longer span of time before taking a decision on the future of a franchise, but it seems like the creators have made up their minds in just over a month.

When it comes to the reviews attained by the series, it has been quite bad, to say the least. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 55% and an IMDb rating of 3.9/10, one would be quite hesitant to watch the show after seeing those scores. The fact that the release date was quite close to the launch of a new season of Stranger Things probably didn't help Resident Evil's case either, as it was up in competition with a series that is unarguably one of the most popular and highest-rated series on the platform.

While the TV series has been cancelled, the games continue to do well and some big things are already in the works. In just a couple of months, we have the Resident Evil Village DLC coming out, which has been long awaited by fans for quite some time now. Soon after that, we have the remake of the fan-favorite classic, Resident Evil 4, which is coming early next year. Not to forget, there have been speculations going on about a sequel to Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City as well.
