Respawn Wants Titanfall to Feel Familiar, but "It's All New"; the World Is "so Much More Open"

During the launch broadcast of the Xbox One yesterday night, Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella was asked a few questions about Titanfall, and he shared his vision for the game:

Titanfall is something we want to be familiar to people. It’s that experience that you pick up and it’s not something that you’re like “how do I play this?”

But yeah, once you start playing it, you realize “wait a minute, this is all new, there’s something different here.” There’s so much more, the world is so much more open. For us, that’s what we’re really focused on. It’s that verticality into the world, that cinematic kind of experience in multiplayer. It’s all there and really draws you into the world.

Personally, they had me at “we have giant robots,” but I can see how shooters do seem to need a shake up in map design. Hopefully Titanfall’s maps will be as open and immersive as Zampella describes.

Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
