Returnal Gets New Gameplay Footage in Latest Housemarque videocast
Returnal gets new gameplay via Housemarque's dev cast. The team also talks about the game's origins and digs into how the studio is handling narrative.
Housemarque announced its next game Returnal back in the summer as part of the big marketing push for the PS5. The upcoming third-person shooter mixes wild gameplay and psychological, sci-fi horror. And it’s only playable on PS5. At The Game Awards, Housemarque revealed the game is coming on March 19 and gave us another look at gameplay. Today, as part of their ongoing Housecast series, we got yet another look at Returnal. Give it a look below.
Of course, the focus of the video is more about what led to Returnal becoming Housemarque’s next project. However, we do get to see a few snippets of gameplay. Plus, they dig in a bit into this being one of the studio’s first foray into making a commitment to the story. That’s a pretty big step for the studio that has continually made its games must-plays on the strength of their gameplay.
That doesn’t mean this won’t have great gameplay. In fact, as you can see in the footage, Returnal looks to be shaping up very well. The movement looks slick and the enemy design seems excellent. If there’s any studio I trust to make tight gameplay, it’s Housemarque. Sure, the roguelike genre is getting a little crowded lately, but I’m certainly willing to give Housemarque’s latest a go.
Returnal comes to PS5 on March 19. While you wait, I hear that Resogun game is pretty good. If you’re looking for something to play on your brand new PS5, there’s nothing better than an old classic.
