After significant leaks from the PC version of Returnal, Sony eventually confirmed the title's arrival on Steam during The Game Awards 2022 showcase, where a new trailer from the game was shared, and it received an early 2023 release window.

While you cannot pre-purchase Returnal at the moment as it doesn't have a proper release date yet, the full details for its system requirements on PC are already out, which details the GPU, the CPU, and the amount RAM and storage that could guarantee a smooth experience for you (courtesy of DSOG).

According to Returnal's Steam page, you will need at least a GTX 1060/RX 580 paired with an Intel i5-6400/Ryzen 5 1500X to run the game at the minimum quality. The interesting part is the fact that the game requires 16 GB of RAM at the minimum. Most new titles still require 8 GB of RAM for the minimum quality and 16 GB of RAM for a recommended experience. So, if your PC still benefits from 8 GB of RAM, you might need an upgrade for a smooth experience in Returnal.

Obviously, the minimum requirement system lacks any DLSS support and ray-tracing reflections. That being said, the recommended system listed on Steam also targets a smooth experience with ray-tracing turned off. This means if you are going to enjoy the game with all setting options maxed out, you will need to wait until launch when the developers share a more detailed version of system requirements.

Currently, the recommended system suggests an RTX 2070 Super/RX 6700 XT paired with an Intel i7-8700/Ryzen 7 2700X. Also, you are going to need 32 GB of RAM for the suggested experience. The game will require 60 GB of free space on your PC, and using an SSD for installing the game is recommended by developers. Regarding the fact that Returnal was a PS5-exclusive and skipped PS4, it is assumed that SSD could play a significant role in the overall performance of the game on PC.

Returnal is the first triple-A title from Housmarque and launched to mostly positive reviews back in 2021. The game's PC settings screen has already been leaked online. Returnal will support DLSS and FSR at launch on PC.
