Battle royale games come in all shapes and sizes from the cartoony look of Fortnite to the more realistic aesthetic of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode. However, Tencent Games the people behind the mobile version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds plans of taking many of the genre's usual concepts in an interesting new direction with Ring of Elysium.

Ring of Elysium sees players take control of tourists trapped at a ski resort during a particularly severe cold snap. The town surrounding the area has been all but snowed under and the only chance of survival is by boarding a single rescue helicopter.

From here, the game sees 100 players battle it out for a seat on the chopper. Along the way they can scale the local icy mountains to access better vantage points or use zip-lines for a swift descent. Other sources of mobility see players dashing downhill on snowboards, taking to the air on hang-gliders, and speeding across the frozen roads on snowmobiles, motorbikes, and jeeps.

The trailer shows the weather gradually worsening as the match progresses with stags frozen in place and the danger of avalanches swallowing the environment.

We also get a taste for the weaponry that will be available with long-range sniper rifles being displayed, along with sub-machine guns and assault rifles.

Ring of Elysium is due for release on Steam on next week on September 19. Check out the trailer below:
