Rock of Ages is the wacky tower defense racing series from developer ACE Team. The devs are teaming up with Modus Games to release Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break early next year. The game mixes an easy-to-use level editor, competitive tower defense, quirky, Monty Python-inspired humor and more to deliver a package that you really should check out.

Previously, many of ACE Team's games have been published by SEGA. Which means this is a bit of new direction for the team. That said, Modus Games is picking up steam lately. They're behind anticipated games like Trine 4 and Cris Tales, so it's not a crazy move for ACE Team to make.

And, from the trailer, it doesn't look like any of that RoA wackiness has been lost in the publisher change. I don't always love every game ACE Team puts out, but I admire their ambition to try weird things. Who else would make a game where you control a wheel of cheese as it rolls through a town filled with Japanese-inspired architecture? And who would give that game two follow-ups?

So, while games like SolSeraph left me less than impressed, I'm always eager to see what ACE Team does next. The level-editor, in particular, looks like it could be a major boon for the game's online scene. If they can get the technical quirks fixed, I wouldn't be surprised if this is very popular within the community.

Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break will come to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2020.
