Rocket League's RocketID system that will allow full cross-platform play has been pushed to early 2019 despite efforts to try and get it launched this year. We covered the latest blog post from Psyonix yesterday in which details on a new update for Rocket League is due to arrive in early December. That update will bring 4K functionality, 60fps, and HDR.

The RocketID system had previously been delayed earlier this year in September with Psyonix stating that they want the system to be operating flawlessly. About two weeks later Psyonix talked about cross-platform play on the official Rocket League Reddit after Sony allowed cross-play for Fortnite however the statement didn't reveal a release date.

In the statement yesterday it was revealed that the RocketID system will be launching in early 2019 rather than late 2018. They also discuss Sony's recent announcements regarding cross-platform play and hope to bring Rocket League to all platforms that the title is currently available on. You can read the statement below.

Before diving into what’s next, we have an update on RocketID, a feature that many of you are really excited for. While our goal was to release RocketID before the end of 2018, we’ve made the difficult decision to push its release into early 2019. The good news is that with Sony's recent announcements regarding full cross-platform functionality, we can now make additional changes to prepare RocketID for ALL platforms should we receive permission to do so! We’re working incredibly hard to ensure that it’s as intuitive, stable, and polished as possible, before releasing it to the world. We know the wait has been frustrating for many of you who are eager for this feature, and we thank you for your patience as we continue to work on cross-platform support.

Rocket League is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Currently, the title allows Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch players to connect through random matchmaking and private matches. PC and PS4 users can connect together as well but not to other platforms. RocketID is planned to allow all platforms to connect and create parties.
