This year has undoubtedly been one of Rocket League's biggest since it launched back in 2015. On the back of changing its loot mechanics at the end of last year, the game celebrated its five-year anniversary, went free to play and hit over one million concurrent players for the first time in its history. Alongside that, the game had a crossover event with one of gaming's biggest franchises, Fortnite.

The crossovers don't stop there either. Like many others, Rocket League is gearing up for Halloween in style with a new Haunted Hallows event. The event, which will work just like the Fortnite Llama-Rama one, will allow players to unlock a whole host of items inspired by Ghostbusters.

The event kicks off later today, October 20, and runs through to November 2. When the event is live, players will be able to complete a variety of different challenges in order to unlock the items from the Haunted Hallows set. These include Ghostbusters Wheels, Slimer Topper and Mood Slime Boost. If players are able to complete all challenges within the time period, they will unlock every item available.

While players will be able to unlock a selection of Ghostbusters items, there are others available. Purchasable through the item shop, players will be able to grab a variety of items from previous Haunted Hallows events. These include the Stay Puft and Reaper Goal Explosions, and the returning Ecto-1, which becomes the first licensed car to ever return to the Rocket League shop.

Alongside the challenges and items, this year's Haunted Hallows event also comes with two Limited Time Modes. These modes are Haunted Heatseaker and Spike Rush. Psyonix says that "Haunted Heatseeker is Heatseeker but in the spooky new Haunted Urban Arena, and Spike Rush will take place on night map variants."

Rocket League is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
