Just before the launch of RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures for Nintendo Switch next week, DualShockers had the chance to discuss the game with Mark Perloff, a Senior Producer at Atari. Throughout the interview, he reflected on what exactly RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures' place was in the lauded series. In short, it's proving to be an accessible entry point for new players but should also feature enough new mechanics and depth to make series veterans happy.

When asked how RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures for Nintendo Switch surpassed or improved upon previous entries of the series, Mark Perloff was quick to point how great of a franchise Chris Sawyer created with RollerCoaster Tycoon back in the 90s. After that, he highlighted the game's new "Choose Your Own Adventure" mechanic that he claims will make Adventure mode feel more fleshed out than ever before:

"Chris Sawyer created an extraordinary, indelible franchise with RollerCoaster Tycoon. Each game brings its own unique twists, and so with RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures we’re offering some new and exciting features we think players will really love. One example is our brand-new Adventure Mode. We took the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon campaign mode and added a “Choose Your Own Adventure” twist.

As players build their parks, they’ll occasionally be prompted by a text pop-up with a tricky decision to make, which can have long-lasting ramifications on their park. Let’s say an inspector comes to your park, demanding a look at your rides. Do you let him in and risk a fine if things aren’t up to code, or send one of your mascots to distract him and hope he looks the other way? These decisions can negatively or positively affect the success of their park, and the branching paths of each decision ensure that each trip through Adventure Mode will be a totally new experience."

DualShockers then asked Mark who Atari believes the Switch exclusive appeals most to, leading him to describe RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures as a "accessible and fun entry point" for the RollerCoaster Tycoon series that still has some depth for the more hardcore players. If previous games ever felt too inaccessible or hard to understand for you, it seems like RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures will be a better entry point:

"With RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures we focused on creating an accessible and fun entry point into the series – a game that a young player, or someone new to the franchise, could jump into easily.  We believe the game has a good balance between accessibility and depth, giving players of all ages and skill levels something they can sink their teeth into.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures will launch for Nintendo Switch on December 13, and it's AtGames distributed physical edition can be pre-ordered on Amazon. The full interview will go live tomorrow, but for now you can see what Atari's Mark Perloff had to say about the possibility of implementing microtransactions or releasing expansions for RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures.
