Today Kadokawa Games announced that the heroine of the upcoming live-action visual novel Root Letter: Last Answer will be played by idol Ako Yamamoto.

Yamamoto is known in Japan as the center of idol group Cerisier. She will play Aya Fumino, the elusive heroine in the original Root Letter story.

If you're unfamiliar with Root Letter: Last Answer, it's basically a live-action version of the original Root Letter, and its platforms and release window are still unknown.

The original game is a charming visual novel set in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. It tells the story of a man in his thirties living in Tokyo, temporarily moving to Shimane in order to locate a penpal from his school days. Unfortunately, things are much more complicated than they seem, and mysteries add onto each other, delivering many shocking revelations.

At the moment we don't know how closely the live-action version will stick to the original.

Root Letter: Last Answer was announced a few weeks ago together with a still-mysterious sequel tentatively-named Root Letter 2.

The original game shipped over 400,000 copies for PS4, PS Vita, and PC. You can read my review from back when it was released on consoles.
