Rovio, developer of the hugely successful Angry Birds franchise, has opened a new game studio in London.
Excitingly, the developer isn’t expanding to work on more of the same, as the new location “will focus on massively multiplayer online games, or MMOs, with new IP beyond the Angry Birds universe.”, so fans can look forward to some non-Angry Birds titles at last.
The new location represents the fifth in-house studio for the growing developer, which already has three in Espoo, Finland and one in Stockholm, Sweden. On choosing London as the site of the new studio, SVP of Studios Antti Viitanen said:
“Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.”
Head of Studio Mark Sorrell added:
“We believe that the best game experiences are those that you share with other people, so we’re starting a studio to do exactly this. We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”
Fans interested in becoming a part of Rovio should mind the careers page of the developer’s website; the studio is looking to fill roughly 20 positions over the next two years and has positions posted for Art Director, Technical Director and much more.
