The greatest civilizations in the world all had siege elephants and that's a fact. DomiNations determines which is mightiest superpower of all time.

DomiNations has you build up a civilization from the Stone Age all the way to Space Age. Of course this isn't a peaceful endeavor with players around the world trying to wreck your stuff. The matchmaking allows people in similar ages to go against each other. The idea is to expand your influence by taking over neighboring nations with overwhelming force.

I had a chance to chat with Tim Train, President of Big Huge Games, who's an industry veteran who's worked on strategy games like Sid Meier's Civilization, Sid Meier's Gettysburg and Rise of Nations. DomiNations is attempting to introduce a whole new level of strategy most mobile strategy fans haven't seen in a good long while.

Tim said he wants his games to be "a series of interesting decisions" when asked how his game compares to other games on the market like Clash of Clans or Game of War. He considers DomiNations  a "2nd generation game, with more depth and choice than a fan of that genre is used to."

When I saw DomiNations in action it did seem to have more going on than your typical mobile strategy game. It has more of an RTS feel to it with things like having a rally point system and how you'll hunt and gather resources. This asks for a lot more involvement from the player than just place a structure and wait for the timer to go down.

With full support from publisher Nexon, who is no stranger to the free-to-play market, it seems DomiNations could have a chance to really distinguish themselves in already crowded market.

DomiNations was released this week on iOS and Android for the grand total of free.
