Rumor: Another Playstation 4 Controller Revealed?
Two big pictures are making their way around the net today: one that looks like a DualShock 4 Controller, and one that seems to be called the SplitShock.
This image, as reported by VGR, has what seems like a press release, along with designs for the “SplitShock” controller, which looks a lot like the Hybrid Controller patent I reported on a couple of months ago. This design removes the physical analog sticks in lieu of a bigger touch pad screen that uses digital sticks to make porting iOS and Android games easier for developers. The pad can also be pushed in as its own button, and be used for whatever else developers had in mind. Maybe like making creation capabilities easier in LittleBigPlanet? Or as a radial dial for weapon select features in a shooter game? Or is this the biometric pad that’s been rumored to be in development that can read player’s heat and pulse?
More importantly, the SplitShock’s biggest function is doubling as a motion controller that actually splits to become two controllers. Each side would have its own “Move spheres” (now seemingly pill-sized) that would interact with Sony’s updated PS Eye, called in the so-called press release as the “Sony Dual Eye.”
All rumors also point to a “Share” button, that allows gamers to share data or games by pressing the buttom. The controller would possibly come with 4GB of internal memory.
Do these rumors have any legitimacy, or is it just more guesswork and doctored photos? What do you think of the designs? Do you think the SplitShock could work as the “hardcore gamer’s motion controller?” If it does have a biometric meter that can read pulse and heat, can it make motion games that react to player excitement and fear? Will February 20th bring us our answers? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned to DualShockers.com for more news.
