Rumor: Microsoft Points to Be Dropped from Xbox Live

on January 24, 2012 10:00 AM

The rumor mill is at it again, and this time it’s all about Xbox Live. Microsoft could be scrapping the whole Microsoft Points thing in favor of — gasp! — real currency.

According to sources at Inside Mobile Apps, quite a few mobile developers have been alerted to this change and told to plan their game updates accordingly. All MS Points floating around the system when the change occurs will be converted to local currency. Just like that.

Xbox Live, Windows Phones, and Zune all use Microsoft Points, with money alternatives being slowly integrated over the past few years. It makes sense that they would ditch the Points system entirely. Now all we need is for Nintendo to drop the whole “Wii Points” thing and we’ll be all up to speed now.
