Rumor: Next Gen PlayStation and XBOX Announcements Set to Happen Around GDC

on January 15, 2013 9:00 AM

What a coincidence. The very same week that we discuss next generation console announcements during the ShockCast, we’re met with rumors suggesting the exact opposite of what we all thought is going to happen. Go figure.

According to a rumor found in February’s Game Informer magazine, both Microsoft and Sony are planning “Apple-style” press conferences to announce their respective consoles. CVG was able to¬†corroborate¬†that story from their own sources and added that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 successors will be announced before this year’s E3 expo in Los Angeles.

Throwing an extra wrench into the loop is Game Informer’s claims that Sony is planning to launch their next hardware before Microsoft — which basically goes against everything we’ve been hearing about the next gen console thus far. Again, take this with a grain of salt as it’s very much still a rumor until either company tells us otherwise.

We’ll be watching this one closely (while keeping our fingers crossed for a New York City announcement event from either company). Just make sure to stay tuned to DualShockers for all your next gen news.
