Rumor: The PSP Go to Get a Price Cut

If you’ve been around the site and listening to our podcasts over the course of, oh, the last eight months or so, you’ll know we rag on the PSP Go so much it’s developing an inferiority complex. The steep $250 price point and the dropping of the UMD drive, which is the medium most PSP players have been using to stockpile their library of games, probably added to its lackluster sales and general disdain within gaming communities. Now comes word, via Joystiq, that the beleaguered system may be getting a price cut as early as this Friday.

They’re reporting that a tipster sent them an image from a store he works at, indicating a $50 North American price drop. That would put the price of the PSP Go at $199.99 instead of the less approachable $249.99. No word from Sony on this yet, so it is firmly in the rumor category, but I can see it happening. Can you?
