While the newest expansion to World of Warcraft is still in the beta stages, this doesn’t exclude people from wondering, hoping and even praying that Cataclysm will release sooner rather than later. Some new comments by the Community Managers over at Blizzard might disappoint some if they are, in fact, accurate statements about when the expansion will launch, because it seems to be much later than originally anticipated. So, let’s put two and two together.
In the latest Cataclysm beta build (13117), some text was found that stated that the start date for the next season of rated arena battles and battleground matches would start on December 14th. However, this requires a player at level 85, and if the expansion released on that day, no one would be able to start the new season. In a post on the forums, CM Zarhym had this to say, which solidifies where the December 7th date comes from:
“The next Arena Season will begin for level-85 players approximately one week after the official launch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.”
Thus, if the new arena/battleground season starts on December 14th, that stands to reason that the launch date for Cataclysm is December 7, 2010. Both these dates are Tuesdays. That day of the week coincides with the day that Blizzard typically schedules maintenance on the WoW servers, as well as the day that most mainstream games are released in North America.
What do you all think? Could we see World of Warcraft: Cataclysm hitting in early December? Did you expect it sooner? Later? I know myself, for one, thought it would be more along the lines of mid-November. However, I must stress that this is not an official date revealed by Blizzard, it is simply the convalescence of two pieces of data discovered recently. Take that as you will.
