Zynga Lays Off Austin, Boston Employees During Apple Keynote

on October 23, 2012 2:18 PM

Update: Gamasutra has first-hand confirmation of the layoffs. Ugly move, Zynga.

Update 2: 100+ Layoffs were confirmed in Austin, as well as a complete shutdown of Zynga Boston.

Nothing like a little rug-sweeping to get social media fired up. Reports are coming in that Zynga laid off 100+ employees from their Bingo and TheVille teams, giving them two hours to vacate their offices. To do this during the Apple event, people are thinking that Zynga is trying to use the event as a way to keep everyone distracted.

There are other reports coming in that the same is occurring in Boston and Chicago as well . None of this comes as a surprise though, as Zynga has been circling the drain for some time now. If any of this is true, my sympathies go out to the developers that may have lost their livelihoods. Here’s hoping you find something better.
