Samurai Shodown gets a new DLC character on October 15, and it's a good one. "Basara the Executioner" is finally joining the cast. Check out his trailer below.

Basara's first appearance in the series came in Samurai Shodown III. He's something of a madman--he laughs maniacally as he cuts his enemies to bits. That's all right though. Every good fighting game needs a bit of a sinister, "edgy" element, and Basara fits the bill nicely. He's got some demon in him and even a little ninja, and he's totally cool. Weird shrill laughter as he dismembers his opponent? That's just icing on the cake.

Practically speaking, Basara brings a lot to the table. His weapon, for instance, is quite unique--a three-sided shuriken attached to a chain. It's got great utility, as Basara can wield it effectively from a distance and while close to his enemy. In other words, he seems like he'll be able to zone if he needs to and apply pressure when he can. Basara also utilizes shadows, and you'll notice from the trailer how they allow him to teleport all over the screen--and even into a decent-looking uppercut. Finally, in keeping with Samurai Shodown's general "thing," his attacks are absolutely brutal and bloody.

Samurai Shodown's "Season 1" DLC, which has already seen the release of Rimururu and Shizumaru Hisame, is expanding with the release of Basara. The season pass is available for $19.99, or you can purchase each individual character for $5.99. Kazuki Kasama will release in November, and Wan-Fu will arrive in December.

Samurai Shodown is available now on PS4 and Xbox One and you can find it on Amazon. The Nintendo Switch and PC versions of the game will be releasing in Japan this December, but North American release dates for those platforms have not yet been confirmed.
