The Merchant Alliance in Sea of Thieves is a major trading company that recruits players to carry out various challenging voyages, paying them with solid gold in return. One of the many trade goods that the Alliance commissions are live chickens. Players looking to achieve the Grave V Merchant of the Dawn Caller title will need to capture and deliver a grand total of 200 chickens, so players will need to know where to look.

Chickens are one of many passive creatures that spawn in-game, and they offer a pretty sizeable amount of gold when commissioned. Rewards range from 10 gold to 7500 gold, depending on the chicken type and whether the commission is part of a Merchant Alliance voyage. Chickens can also be killed for meat, and that may be sold to The Hunter's Call, but for much less of a reward.

How To Find And Catch Chickens In Sea Of Thieves

Where To Find Chickens

Sea of Thieves - four chickens in sand

Chickens, like other passive creatures in Sea of Thieves, will spawn randomly in select locations. They are not rare creatures by any means, and players shouldn't have too much trouble finding them if they're looking in the right locations. They will spawn in groups at all of the following places, and players should scout out wide open areas for the best odds of spotting them:

The Shores of Plenty

The Ancient Isles

The Wilds

Cannon Cove

Barnacle Cay

Black Water Enclave

Mermaid's Hideaway

Chicken Isle

Marauder's Arch

Rapier Cay

Crook's Hollow

Old Faithful Isle

Sailor's Bounty

Discovery Ridge

Scurvy Isley

Salty Sands

Mutineer Rock

Shipwreck Bay

Sea Dog's Rest

Old Salts Atoll

The Crooked Masts

Smuggler's Bay

Plunder Valley

Tri-Rock Isle

Twin Groves

Shark Bait Cove

Wanderers Refuge

Thieves' Haven

There are four kinds of chickens that players may stumble across, with some breeds being more valuable than others. The most common and least valuable is the White Feathered Chicken, followed by the Red Speckled Chicken and the Black Plumed Chicken. These three breeds are worth a minimum of 100 gold, minimum of 300 gold, and a minimum of 700 gold respectively when commissioned through the Merchant Alliance. The rarest, and by far, the most valuable is the Golden Chicken, worth a minimum of 1500 gold. These values increase as players upgrade within the trading company.

How To Catch Chickens

Sea of Thieves - chickens in cages on ship

Knowing where the chickens are is pretty pointless if players don't know how to catch them. Luckily, this process is very straightforward to learn. To do so, players will need to use a chicken coop. This is an item that can be picked up whenever a Merchant Contract requests that chickens be collected. These coops can be gotten from any Merchant Alliance Representative at outposts, and the number that players are given is equal to the number of chickens requested by the contract.

Once players have a chicken coop to their name, they will need to equip it and approach a chicken. Players can then hold down the primary use button while standing near the chicken to catch them. This will place the chicken in the cage, and voila. Once caged, players still need to be careful, as these chickens can still take damage as normal, including drowning and explosive damage. Players should act swiftly and safely to avoid losing any chickens.

Chicken Rewards
