Yesterday evening, we reported that Xbox Games Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg teased that new info about Rare's Sea of Thieves are going to come at The Game Awards.Today, we get more information on what those will be about within Executive Producer Joe Neate's new "Insider Report" post.Neate mentions that the release date announcement is coming "soon" and that a clue to when is already out. Earlier today, he tweeted our article, and even added a bit of color.

If that wasn't enough of a hint, Neate mentions in the Insider Report that the release date announcement will be accompanied by a short and fun new trailer that will show (among other things) things to come and one of his "favourite funny moments in one of our trailers for quite a while." I'll let you connect the dots.

A new play session is also coming in December, and it will include a lot of new features in an early state. The team wants to get feedback on them as early as possible, in order to have the time to make adjustments based on it, instead of waiting until the game is too close to shipping for comfort.  Quests will be acquired and delivered in a different way, progress will need to be "banked" slightly differently, and players will be rewarded with more than just gold.

There is also something else in the report, but Neate kindly asked to keep it as a secret among insiders, so I'm going to respect his wish and I won't tell you. I know, I'm cruel.

In the meanwhile, if you want to see more of the game, you can also check out the latest gameplay recorded by the developers, a recent gameplay trailer,  the previous trailer showing the latest content update, and the panel from New York Comic Con with the reveal of the Pirate Code. You should also take a good look at our video interview with Rare Studio Director Craig Duncan.

Sea of Thieves will launch in early 2018 for Xbox One, Xbox One X and PC. No specific release date has been announced for the moment.

The Game Awards will air from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 7th, 2017. The show will start at 5:30 PM PST or 8:30 PM EST.
