Today Microsoft announced that Rare's newest game Sea of Thieves has passed two million players on Xbox One and PC.

On top of this achievement, the shared-world adventure title is now the fastest-selling first party new IP of this generation. According to Microsoft's own Aaron Greenberg, this specific achievement does not include copies distributed with Game Pass, which makes sense since those aren't exactly "sales."

This means that even without the launch on Game Pass, Sea of Thieves did rather well for itself.

That's not all, as Rare's game is also the best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10.

This is certainly quite the achievement for a completely new IP that requires players to be always online and isn't exactly friendly to those who would rather play solo.

Since the game's launch over half a million Xbox Live friendships have been created, and 00,000 players have joined an Xbox Club to find like-minded pirates to adventure with.
