As the latest engine to come from Epic Games in its long-running Unreal series, Unreal Engine 4 is available freely for developers to use and develop projects while only incurring fees once projects become financially successful: naturally, this led to one developer showing what a Mario game could look like utilizing the tech.

In a new video from YouTube user and game developer aryoksini, the video (titled "Mario is Unreal") shows a gameplay/tech demo of levels from the classic Super Mario 64 recreated in Unreal Engine 4.

While obviously the game most likely wouldn't be able to come to fruition due to the character's ownership under Nintendo, it still gives a fun and intriguing glimpse at what a more realistically-rendered Mario game would look like, which you can see for yourself below:
