Gaming giant of the 20th century SEGA is once again dipping its toe into the world of mobile gaming to breathe new life into some of its more recognizable franchises and faces. However, this time it is not simply releasing portable versions of decades-old classics. Instead, it's gathering characters from many different titles under one roof in SEGA Heroes.

SEGA Heroes is a match-3 title that adds in a 4-on-4 battle mechanic into the mix in order make it stand out from the crowded mobile genre. Developed by at Demiurge Studio, the team behind Marvel Puzzle Quest, this game promises to provide players with an easy to learn but hard to master playstyle. If the aforementioned Marvel Puzzle Quest is anything to go by; SEGA Heroes should be a surprisingly deep experience.

Creating teams of characters calls for collecting them in-game and making use of their individual skill sets in order to defeat many of SEGA's well-known villains. The trailer below shows a handful of the antagonists at large including Dr. Robotnik, Golden Axe's Death Adder, Street of Rage's Mr. X, and more.

Luckily, there are more than 30 unlockable characters from across nine popular SEGA franchises to fend off the incoming threat. Among them are Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding from Streets of Rage, Tyris Flare and Gillius Thunderhead of Golden Axe, Super Monkey Ball's Baby and Gongon, and Jet Set Radio's DJ Professor K; to name but a few. The wide array of characters can then be used to take on more than 200 levels.

Of course, no SEGA-themed get-together would be complete with an appearance from the Blue Blur, and this title sees the fan-favorite franchise well represented with the inclusion of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Shadow, Cream and Cheese, Big the Cat, and Rouge.

SEGA Heroes is available now for free on iOS and Android featuring daily events, PvP battles, quests, and a survival mode.
