Today developer Failbetter Games announced the sequel to their hit survival roguelike Sunless Sky at the European gaming convention EGX. The similarly named Sunless Skies is said to be coming to PC, Mac, and Linux and will go through the same Early Access treatment that the original took advantage of. This version will also flesh out the fantasy world crafted by the creators and tie back to their earlier game Fallen London.

The Sunless series revolves around a dystopian history where the British empire has sunken into an endless sea found underneath the earth's crust. Sunless Skies ditches the steamships of the first game and sees the Brits taking to space to colonize the stars in a tale inspired by disparate sources like H.G. Wells and the film Event HorizonThese seem like fitting influences as the story will include the death of literal stars that embody those that 'enforce the universe's laws.'

Failbetter didn't give away too much about the game which they say is still in pre-production. However, there will be a Kickstarter in February for Sunless Skies so expect more info, screenshots, videos, space empires and other goodies then.
