During the crazy shenanigans of Devolver Digital's yearly press conference, the publisher revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for Serious Sam 4. Croteam's latest entry in the bloody first-person franchise will be coming to both PC and Stadia in August.

The trailer below also revealed a bit of story (basically that you're fighting off an alien invasion with our favorite badass protagonist) but we all know that an excuse to kill a lot aliens, which is a glorious thing:

According to the official description: "Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam "Serious" Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.

Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels. The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations."

Back in May, Croteam revealed their own gameplay trailer for the title, filled to the brim with blood and gore just as in today's trailer.

Serious Sam 4 was first announced in 2018 and since then Devolver released plenty of screenshots from the game, as well as info on what to expect. The newest entry in the series will remain linear and true to the run-backward-and-shoot core gameplay, but its environments are definitely expanding. Players will have "legions of enemies" to wipe out with an "insane variety of weapons." In addition, players will have access to vehicles -- including a bulletproof popemobile -- and the companions in the game will be a part of the action and not just regulated to cutscenes.

Before then the last mainline title was Serious Sam 3 that launched in 2011. Since then developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital have been working diligently on the series, releasing titles like Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, and Serious Sam’s Bogus Detour.

You can preorder the game on Steam now.
