Why the exclamation? Because I’m excited. For those of you who don’t know, Yaris Gutierrez – me – is an avid RTS fan. I find nothing more relaxing than commanding a civilization of people to chop wood, collect minerals, build things, and putting them to beat the crap out of my neighbors who have something that I want: resources and land.
I’m a Settlers fan (in fact, I’m such a fan that they modeled Settlers 4 characters after me). So knowing hearing news that The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom has a beta going for it is pretty exciting. However, to take part of this beta, you need to be a FilePlanet subscriber. Yep. I know how you feel. It is definitely a kick in the nuts from this point on.
The beta keys aren’t going out until the 19th, though. So those of you who aren’t subscribers to FilePlanet still have some time to figure out whether or not a beta is worth a paid subscription. Me? I’m not paying for a damn thing. As excited as I am, I’d prefer to wait for either a demo or the game’s release.
The beta will allow testers to play single-player tutorial missions and some skirmish maps for the purpose of multiplayer and competitive play against Settlers’ AI. I’m hoping they bring back a lot of the traditional elements and not base it off of the old one which, from what it seems, they are doing. I prefer the little fat Latino looking dudes who bake bread, chop wood, hunt, farm and fish, to the more “modern” looking dudes. But, that’s just me.
