Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will be making its way digitally to Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U on December 20th, developer WayForward Technologies announced via Kickstarter.

Those who backed the game will be receiving their codes next week for activation on December 12th. Retail version release dates will be announced via publisher XSEED Games "shortly."

It's worth noting that the Wii U version has an “awaiting final confirmation” annotation beside it, indicating there might be a slight delay for that platform.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is the fourth game in the Shantae series, following Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and the first to be specifically developed for high definition game platforms. Its Kickstarter campaign was fully funded by the time it ended in October 2013.

Players take control of Shantae, a half-genie who can use her hair as a whip and who can transform into a variety of creatures, such as a monkey that can climb walls and a crab that can move around underwater. The game is divided into chapters, which can be revisited once the player has acquired new powers to find new passageways and powers.

The original release date for the game was October 2014, but was delayed due to additional funding and promised stretch goals. Development was complete, however, by the end of last month.

The game's E3 gameplay trailer can be found here.
