The Square Enix Collective has currently supported another successful Kickstarter campaign through devs Redlock Studio. Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King reached its €80,000 goal (approx $84,500 USD) a few days ago. But rather than bask in that success, the house that Final Fantasy built decided to keep helping the French studio's action-adventure-platformer hybrid giving a final call out to people to support the campaign.

Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King puts you in the shoes of the wanderer as they explore the broken land of Hypnos. The game is full of lore with three different accounts of the fall of the world due to the disappearance of the deity-like King. In a rather unique twist, each of these viewpoints are at odds and it is up to the player to piece together the actual history of Hypnos.

The 2D Gameplay is split between puzzle solving, navigating dangerous terrain, fighting enemies with the aid of an RPG style skill system, and exploring complex levels. The 3D elements are saved for the 12 boss battles with the evil Demiurges. These encounters will have a Devil May Cry feel to them with dodging and multiple attack strengths. A neat feature is that abilities gained during the 2D sections will carry on into these intense fights.

The continual support of the campaign in these last few days could lead to a few interesting stretch goals. The ones on the campaign page have been altered slightly with updates:

  • Originally the €110,000 goal (approx $116,000 USD) would include new bosses and added voice work. Now it also adds additional secret areas, wanderers (playable characters), and fallens (enemies and NPC).
  • Console versions were promised at a €220,000 (approx $230,000 USD) level but Redlock Studio has promised PS4 and Xbox One ports regardless of the final total. They just warn that that process will take longer due to needing funds from the PC release of the game.

DualShockers has written about this project a few times before and it's not surprising given how interesting the entire package looks: The art is unique and gorgeous, the mellow soundtrack with spoken vocals (foreign, possibly from a completely crafted language) is hypnotic, and the lore seems incredibly rich. I'm surprised I missed something as polished as Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King since I usually cover crowdfunding efforts.

The campaign is currently over €100,000 (approx $105,000 USD)with a day and a half left to go. The first stretch goal looks very likely which is good news as more content is always welcome. You have until
