Shenmue anime is finally close to its official release, and here's everything you need to know about the show's release schedule.
Produced by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, Shenmue is an upcoming Japanese anime series. For the unacquainted, the anime is based on a video game series by Sega. Yu Suzuki released three parts of the incredible Shenmue franchise, the latest one being Shenmue III which came out in 2019 for Windows and PS4.
The video games were well-received in the community for their brawl-style combat gameplay. So, it's no wonder that many fans were surprised after learning that an anime adaptation of Shenmue is coming out.

Shenmue Release Time and Date Confirmed
Crunchyroll officially confirmed that Shenmue would premiere on Saturday, February 5th, 2022, or Sunday, February 6th, 2022, depending on your region.
According to Crunchyroll's official post, the release time for Shenmue would be 9:30 PM PT (Pacific Timing). But of course, it will be a simulcast release, so the timing will vary depending on your location. So, here's the exact release time for different regions:
- Pacific Time: 9:30 PM PST on February 5th
- Central Time: 11:30 PM CST on February 5th
- Eastern Time: 12:30 AM EST on February 6th
- British Time: 5:30 AM GMT on February 6th
- European Time: 6:30 AM CET on February 6th
- Indian Time: 11:00 AM IST on February 6th
- Australia Time: 4:00 PM ACDT on February 6th
Shenmue Anime Plot
The plot for Shenmue is pretty straightforward. The anime will follow the journey of Ryo, who witnesses the murder of his father. In his quest for revenge, Ryo trains in Martial arts and hunts the person who killed his father.
Ryo fights against several influential people in his long journey and finds out that Lan Di killed his father for the mysterious Dragon Mirror.
Here's How You Can Watch Shenmue
Besides Crunchyroll, Adult Swim will also air Shenmue on its platform. Crunchyroll confirmed that it would air the subbed version of the anime, whereas Adult Swim will get the dubbed version.
Both platforms offer a free trial of 14 days, so new subscribers have the option to start watching the anime without paying anything for 14 days. After that, you can opt for a premium subscription if you want to watch the episodes immediately after their broadcast in Japan.
Shenmue Anime Episode Count
It's official that Shenmue would consist of a total of 13 episodes. The first episode, titled "Thunderclap," will release on February 5th, and after that, the series will follow a weekly release schedule.
