Shenmue III’s Record-Breaking Kickstarter Ends at $6,333,296; Funding Will Continue Via PayPal

Over a month has passed since the fateful moment in which Shenmue III has been announced, and the game already broke crowdfunding records on Kickstarter. Its campaign has just ended, with a quite flattering result.

The Kickstarter has gathered $6,333,296 in pledges by 69,320 backers, and while it didn’t reach the ten million some hoped, it’s still over three times as much as the original goal of two million.

Now that the first step has been taken, the hard part starts, with the actual development of the game. Yu Suzuki and his team have proven their worth in the past, but the visibility and pressure weighing on this project are sizable. The fans have waited for Shenmue III for fourteen years, and expectations are definitely through the roof.

Suzuki-san also mentioned during the accompanying livestream, that the funding will also continue via PayPal, so there’s still a good chance to reach higher goals. More details about this will be provided soon.

He concluded the campaign by thanking all the fans that made it a reality, mentioning that we’re just at the starting point. The development team is taking the task very seriously, so he asked for our continued support.

Good luck, Suzuki-san, and congratulations!
