Shin Megami Tensei V Trailer 3 analysis

After initially confirming it through Japanese press releases and screenshots, the trailer shows with gameplay for the first time how we'll be able to freely move between the normal world to the world of Da'at. Making Shin Megami Tensei V slightly more Persona-like.

Just like with every Japanese game trailer, and with Atlus games, in particular, don't forget the dialogue lines are all out of context. And the scenes shown on-screen don't necessarily correspond to the dialogue heard. Be sure to keep that in mind when making theories.

Similarly, don't believe the trailer is full of spoilers. While I do understand some are uncomfortable with how Japanese games promotion tends to reveal a lot, I personally don't consider it spoilers unless the developers specifically warn players who wish to avoid spoilers to not watch the said trailer.

In particular, Atlus is pretty careful in what it actually shows and reveals before release, and things can be misleading. There will definitely be many surprises awaiting when we actually play the game. Be it with story elements or with each of the characters' development. The same thing happened with Persona 5 Scramble.

Is the new character Raidou Kuzunoha in SMT V?

While he looks a bit different, the character who's dressed like Raidou Kuzunoha XIV is definitely the same Raidou in my opinion. We can tell because he's voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, the seiyuu who just voiced Raidou in the remaster of Shin Megami Tensei III.

Despite its "house of god" meaning, the Bethel organization seems to be at odds with god. The protagonist, who is part of the organization, at least at the beginning, is seen being attacked by angels.

At the end of the trailer, we can most notably hear Bethel's leader voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda, asking someone if they too, will become a Nahobino. Hinting that perhaps the protagonist won't be the sole character to fuse with Aogami.

Note that the English subbed version is only viewable on YouTube due to the age restriction.

More on SMT V

Shin Megami Tensei V will be launching on November 11 in Japan and November 12 worldwide, exclusively on Switch. A Limited Edition is also coming in Japan and in the USA.

Don't forget the Japanese Atlustube channel is releasing a new demon introduction video every day. These videos are narrated by Tomokazu Sugita. And now with the reveal of Raidou, he's actually voicing a character himself in-game too. Comments from demon and character designer Masayuki Doi are also shared regularly on Twitter.
