During a presentation at Nintendo’s Nindies@Night event at EMP Museum in Seattle, the company announced that the hero Shovel Knight (star of the popular indie title Shovel Knight) would be getting his own amiibo figurine:
Exclusive to the Wii U version of the game, players can scan the Shovel Knight amiibo and take on Shovel Knight’s quest cooperatively with a friend.
On 3DS and Wii U systems, the amiibo can be used to level up and customize Shovel Knight with visual enhancements, relics and abilities. These abilities can then be used in exclusive amiibo challenge levels. The amiibo figure will be supported in future Shovel Knight games.
The amiibo’s existence started out as rumor last week and was seemingly confirmed by UK retailer GAME. This makes Shovel Knight the first indie title to receive the figurine treatment from Nintendo.
